Deakin Ducks Football Club
Club History
Founded in 1978 by Deakin University students with a shared passion for football, the Ducks have grown to be a soccer club that embraces the Waurn Ponds community. Committed to breaking barriers, the club embraced players of all backgrounds, abilities, and genders, fostering a sense of belonging within the community. Over the decades, the club has evolved into a model of inclusivity, promoting teamwork and respect both on and off the pitch. The club’s legacy extends beyond wins and losses, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of its members. United by the love for the game, these university students created not just a club, but a footballing community.
Today, the club has grown rapidly, drawing on talent from the Geelong region and providing opportunities for Deakin University students to play football. The Ducks have a team in the Men’s State League 5 North West competition, as well as two Women’s teams and three more Men’s teams that play in the Geelong Local League. In 2023, the Ducks saw the introduction of the Ducklings, providing an opportunity for junior athletes at the Pond. As the legacy continues, the club stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of inclusivity, embracing the collective passion for football for both the Geelong and Deakin University communities.
